About Us
OUR BIOGRAPHY
Philadephia church started in 1996 with five people in the central part of Malawi, Dowa district in Dzaleka. These two men, their wives, and a young man who lived with these 2 families were the founders. These two men were evangelists, which made it easier for them to hold a gathering in one room of a house they lived in.
In a short period, neighbors and people curious about the word of God joined them, thus increasing the number of attendants.
This made the two men decide to make it official that every Sunday there must be a gathering. The gathering attracted new believers which made the two men decide to find a pastor who could baptize these believers because none of them was a pastor. They commissioned Rev. Munkhondiya, founder of CHALISAA Pentecost, to lead the gatherings, especially for practices like the commemoration of holy communion. In 1999 these two men became pastors, however, they moved to South Africa with their families and the young man..
BACKGROUND OF LEADERSHIP IN PHILADELPHIA
In May 1999 Rev. Pastor Joseph Gashayija came to Malawi. Together with the church, they joined hands with the two men who had become pastors. Upon their departure to South Africa, Rev. Pastor Gashayija remained in control of the church. The church grew vigorously. In 2000 the first church building was built. Some members of the church moved to Lilongwe and other districts in search of greener pastures. This made the church organize fellowship communities in these districts in order to keep in touch with the members.
People gathered in these places on Wednesday and on Sunday they attended Sunday service in Dowa. In 2004 Rev. Pastor Gashayija, appointed Jean Bosco and John . H. Musitafa to be Pastors. An increase in the number of members who lived in Lilongwe made the church decide to have the Lilongwe fellowship as an independent branch.
In 2006 Rev. Pastor Gashayija moved to Zimbabwe. At that point, Pastor Bosco started heading the church. In May 2007 the church acquired its registration status in Malawi. In 2009 the church built its headquarters in Lilongwe, Area 49 sector 6 plot number 167. Since then the church has continued to grow, now with 15 branches in Malawi and over 2000 members.
The church has developed physically and spiritually; it has managed to build several buildings in the branches mentioned below. The church is building a boarding secondary school that will accommodate approximately 380 students. We request your financial support and mostly your prayers.
OUR MISSION
Our main aim is to share the Good news of Jesus Christ and God’s Love and provide hope for the eternal life hereafter.
OUR VISION
- Our vision is to establish different branches across the country (Malawi) and other countries worldwide.
- Building Social Institutions such as schools, hospitals etc.
OUR BELIEVES
Salvation, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Divine Healing and the second coming of Jesus Christ
CORE VALUES
- DISCIPLESHIP
We teach and prepare believers to be devoted and loyal followers of Jesus Christ. We encourage them to follow examples set by Jesus Christ on Earth such as; Righteousness, Faithfulness, and leading disciplined and Responsible lives. (1Timothy 2: 4 – 6, Romans 12: 1)
- Holy Spirit
We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the Helper that Jesus Christ Promised his disciples (the Church). Through the Holy Spirit the Church (believers) has power. (Acts 1 vs 8)
- Evangelism
It is the responsibility and duty of each and every member of Philadelphia to minister or spread the name of Jesus Christ. (Mathews 28 vs 18 – 20)
- Praying
We believe that prayer is the main way of communicating with God. We form different gatherings in the week in order to pray.
- Church Culture
There are several norms that are very essential to every believer in PPECC. Without following them there is a need for disciplinary action by the Church. (Mathew’s 18 vs 15 – 18)
Church Culture also includes Respect for and Obedience to Authority. (2 Timothy 3: 16 – 17)
- Social Activity
We are a community as a church, hence we encourage believers to have good relationships among each other and to help each other in times of need. This Culture is not only among PPECC members but also other people. We also encourage our members to celebrate and grieve together.
